Now I know what it must feel like to get back into the dating scene after a long break. Well, in this case, it's the stamping scene!!! I can't remember when my last post was. I have to admit that I have been slacking a little but I hope to be frequent the blogging/stamping scene a little more from now on. Taking it nice and slow; one challenge at a time!!!

I liked the design challenge on the Card Positioning Systems blog site: #188.

And this is what I created...

I've turned the original image on it's side since I preferred this look better. Didn't know how to created the oval, so used a Stampin' Up punch instead. The flowers stamp is SU as well, while the card stock is from The Mango Frost Matstack by DCWV. If you look closer at the flowers, I've heat embossed them using all SU products. I'm a little addicted to the whole heat embossing thingi these days!!! Love how the powder on the stamp changes to a glazed look with a little bit of heat. It's kind of like blow-drying my hair but getting way better results!!!

I'm going to attempt another challenge tonight and hopefully I will be able to accomplish something before my little one wakes up and starts calling for me. Good night to you all!!! Namaste!

I finally had the chance to make a card while everyone was out today!!! Feel like a beginner all over again:( But as a lot of other stampers have told me, some crafting is better than no crafting at all!!

I used the sketch from Mojo Monday Challenge #140 and the colours from Color Q #34.

Made this card in a hurry before the Color Q deadline...

And it's loaded with 10 minutes to spare!!! Off to enjoy some sunshine..Namaste!

Christmas in May

The moment I saw the OCC Sketch Challenge 15, I thought, "Christmas Tree!!".

I tried a new technique called 'heat embossing', which many of you are already experts at, but my first time attempting it. The card stock is from the Holiday Collection - The Christmas Cardstock Stack by DCWV; the ribbon is Joyful Runway made by KI Memories; the big snowflakes have been punched out with a HyGlo punch; the tree stamp is by Inkadinkado; the smaller snowflakes are a clear stamp by Technique Tuesday; and the white heat embossing powder and heat tool are SU products (my recent and most coveted purchase!!!).

My father-in-law is visiting from India and I can't wait to show him around our beautiful city. He loves wine and cheese, having studies in France for a period of time and we have gorgeous local winery. So this weekend, we're headed there to listen to some live music and taste some delicious wine. Namaste!!

A leader in the making?

I was nominated for the post of President of my local MOMS Club. It's a wonderful group of women; dynamic, intelligent, creative, hard working, inspiring, supportive,....and not to mention, totally fun!! I was honoured, of course, but a little nervous. The truth of the matter is that I've never seen myself in the position of a leader. Don't get me wrong; I will definitely voice my opinions and ideas...but within a group setting more often. I think I've always been afraid of not meeting the mark. I'm 33 years old now. And I've been thinking, if I don't do it now, then when? And all these nights, after I was told about the possible nomination, I kept telling myself, like that little train going up the hill, "I think I can! I think I can!".

Well, I'm President from July for the new year, and looking at my new team of wonderful mothers, I know I can!!! And everything may not be perfect. I may be forgetful and a little disorganised. I might make a fool of myself...or not. But the bottom line is that I can look in the mirror and say to myself, "I gave it my best shot!!". And this will be a great lesson for my children; that challenges are meant to be taken on, giving it all you've got, because that's how we grow. It's all about experiences, and I know that if nothing else, I will walk away from this experience a stronger person.

On with the cards now!!! I used the second sketch from the Caardvarks May Challenge and combined it with the Basic Grey Week 19 Photo Inspiration Challenge (I haven't used any Basic Grey items so cannot enter it for this particular challenge, but I wanted to show you my inspiration for the card!).

The solid cardstock is called 'Spring Moss' from the Perfect Match Papertrey Collection. The DP is from a collection called Petite Papers by Webster's Pages. It has beautiful soft subtle colours and I finally had a chance to use them. The stamp is part of a free set I got with my order from Stampin' Up. The ribbon and button are from my stash, and I used regular markers and a white gel pen to colour in the cake details. I also used a SU border punch and a Martha Stewart circle punch.

Since I've used punches, this card would also qualify for the Delightful Sketches Challenge - Pull out your punches!!

My son's preschool is almost over and we're getting ready to enjoy a great summer ahead of us. We have zoo camp coming up and then a camp at the local conservatory. Plus, I look forward to discovering all the farmer's markets that hold an abundance of fresh and local produce. I'm trying to focus on healthier eating habits, and I hope I've made some positive changes by the end of summer. Namaste!

An evening to myself!!

I think I received my Mother's Day gift the night before. My husband took our older son for his friend's birthday party in the evening while I decided to stay at home while our baby was recovering from a cold. It was the best evening in a long time. Not that I don't love my family and being with them. It's just that after the baby was in bed, and I made myself myself some fragrant jasmine tea, it was so peaceful and calming sitting at my craft table with no distractions at all. Yup, I'm letting my husband off the hook if he doesn't have a card or gift for me today, because last evening was really what I needed!!! Thank you, my love!!!

I made this card for my friend's birthday, which incidentally happens to be today!!! The sketch is based on the Caardvarks May Challenge. There were 2 sketches to choose from, and somehow I seemed to gravitate toward this one. I also decided to play along with Stampin' Celebration's very first challenge. Their colours were bright and cheerful and I wanted some of that reflected in my card.

I also decided to combine another challenge: Color Dare #65, which required these colours...which I thought was similar to the other colour challenge.

In addition, I found that the card would fit the Pals Paper Arts Challenge #41, which was an inspiration challenge.

I hope all DTs from the challenges will forgive me for combining all of them. The challenges by themselves are fantastic individually, but somehow I felt that my card fit them all.

The DP is from Basic Grey Collection - Origins. The cardstock, buttons, ribbon and flower are from my stash. The sentiment stamp is something I bought from friend recently, whose mother was cleaning out her garage.

Well, I'm off to get some hugs from my family on my special day!! Namaste!

My son and I made this card together for his friend's birthday this evening, based on Laura's Sketch #51 from the 2S4Y blog. It took us less than 15 minutes (I have to admit that I did most of the work, but he did help.....a bit!!!).

We flipped the sketch clockwise for a different look.

The pink card stock is from my stash, as well are all the buttons and ribbon. The DP is from My Little Shoebox (All a flutter - wings n' things). Namaste!

Both my boys have been sick all day:( I'm so not used them being so quiet and lethargic, just lying there on the couch. They were both content with watching a little TV and dozing off from time to time. I really hope they feel better tomorrow.....I miss them bugging me every five minutes!!!!

I took on the Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #111. The colours have been inspired by the Color Throwdown Challenge #91 - Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise and Kiwi Kiss.

Decided to make a birthday card for my son's friend, who will be celebrating hers on Saturday.

I apologise for the poor quality of the photo. The little drip on the front of the cupcake is from the glitter gel I used on the cake part. I guess I didn't wait long enough for it to dry before I propped it up!!

It feels good to be a mom!!

Today was the Mother's Day tea party at my older son's preschool. I have only one word to describe it..."perfect"!! I was presented with a flower upon arrival, served punch and cake, handed a gift bag with some beautiful handmade keepsakes, and finally sung to......I couldn't have asked for anything more.

I had some time in the afternoon to make this card for the Just Add Ink Challenge #15. (Unfortunately, Mr. Linky expired before I could upload my card:( )

I flipped the sketch anti-clockwise just for fun.

I used the SU scalloped circle punch for the flower and you can view the technique on the Raspberry Suite website. I wasn't sure where to fit the sentiment, so didn't add one. The buttons were a last minute add-on, and I think they tie in well with the flower. Need to order some card stock from Papertrey; the paper has a really cool rustic look about it. Here comes my next purchase!!! Namaste!!

Summer's round the corner!!

Today's outing to the zoo with my two boys was such a success. We rode the bus with a bunch of other noisy preschoolers and their parents. The weather was perfect. I didn't lose any kids. They actually ate some lunch without dropping most of it on the ground. And we didn't have any major accidents (including leaky poopy diapers!!). All in all, it was a great day and we were all happily exhausted when we got back home.

I decided to make my own paper for Crafty Creations Challenge #65. I liked what I'd created and didn't feel like adding another layer of card stock, since it would have covered up most of the pattern.

I used a technique called "Crayon Resist"; something I learned from the Stamp TV website. The crayon was a little too thick, which is why you can't see to much of the effect on the wings of the dragonflies. I decided to add the sentiments and went a little crazy with it:) Anyway, not bad for a 30 minute card!!

Well, not really, but that was the only title that came to mind while making a card for the Pals Paper Arts - Monochromatic Challenge, which required me to use different shades of blue. I really wish I could have been a little more creative but it's been a while since I've sat at my craft table, and I didn't want to make anything too complicated.

Ok, ok, so I played around with the Color Dare Challenge #64 title!! Honestly, summers can never get too old; especially in this part of the country, where it's growing icicles for almost 6 months of the year!!! I do love the colours of the challenge, especially the little burst of yellow among the mellow greens and sober vanilla. I used the sketch from the Papertake Weekly Challenge #39.

Losing track of time.....

Wow!! I seem to be away from my blog longer and longer these days.....not sure how I feel about it. Hurrah for me!! My card was chosen (randomly, but nonetheless chosen!!!) as the Featured Stamper for the Color Throwdown Challenge #88. Well, this is the third feather in my hat/cap/hair band!!!

I've been enjoying the sunshine with my kids and I've been busy all week making cards at the request of my friends. Some have wanted mother's day ones, while others asked for birthday cards. I have to admit that I'm not much of a multi-tasker (if there is such a word!!!), so between taking care of the kids, the house, the husband (!), and making these cards, I haven't really made the time to take on any of the wonderful challenges out there.

Well, hopefully this week will allow me to try some new challenges. I'm off to bed....Namaste!!!

Recycling...

I probably have a roomful of scraps, which I find hard to part with. You never know when you might just need a tiny piece of DP and not the whole sheet. Last night I decided to attack my bag of scraps and recycle a bit. I followed the Pals Paper Arts Sketch 38.

The DP is from a collection called La Creme Stack by DCWV; the stamps are from the Delightful Dahlia collection by the Raspberry Suite; the plain card stock and ribbon are from my stash and I used the Whisper White Craft Ink by SU for the stamps. I was thinking of adding a sentiment on the outside somewhere but I didn't want it to look too busy.

A group of us moms are getting together for a Ladies' Brunch...without the kiddos. As much as I love my little monsters, I'm looking forward to a couple of hours of just hanging out with the gals!! Mamas, here I come...Namaste!

Allergic to spring....sniff!!

I've lived in this country for 10 years and always enjoyed the beginnings of spring and its beautiful flowers. Not this year!! I mean, I still love the season and the colours, but my sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes are driving me nuts!!!!! I can barely breathe, I sound like the queen of nasal tones and I'm carrying a box of tissues with me all around the house. Not to mention, I keep startling my kids every time I blow my nose. My older one commented, after an especially noisy blow, "Wow!! Amma, that's like an elephant!!". Well, right now, I feel like there's one sitting on me! Still, I wouldn't give up this weather for anything:)

I took on the sketch from Clean & Simple FTL 86. I love their sketches because your card doesn't end up having that cluttered look with so many layers and embellishments.

Really enjoyed using some new DP by My Little Shoebox (they have the cutest papers!), and the sentiment is a Stampendous stamp. I used three different punches for the circles; the 1 & 3/4" from SU, the medium sized Martha Steward Punch and the smallest is from the JoAnn store. I really liked how the sentiment covered most of the yellow and balances the brightness. I also like how this card could be given for any occasion really. It's a simple and heartfelt sentiment and speaks volumes.

My older son starts soccer practice today!!! I'm so excited for him. This is where I'm really transforming into the all-American mom!!! Planning on having a little picnic after soccer with sandwiches and fruit and then some yummy ice cream!!! It's a beautiful day....aachhhoooo!! Namaste!

Mother's Day.......

I've recently been making several Mother's Day themed cards. I've found some beautiful quotes online, but the one I've used for this card was simple and straight from the heart. The sketch is based on Kazan's from 2S4Y (#50) and the colours are from the Color Throwdown Challenge #88 - Tangerine Tango, Basic Gray and So Saffron/White.

The DP is called Woodland Whimsy from the Sassafras website. I used both sides, since I really liked the fabric-like effect of the paper. The vertical strip was cut with a Martha Stewart punch, the tag has been cut using a Big Shot Die-cut machine and Lots of Tags Sizzlits dies (which I just ordered, and absolutely LOVE!!!) from SU . The sentiment is from the Delightful Dahlia set by Raspberry Suite. The tangerine card stock is from my stash.

Hurrah, it's finally Friday and we're heading out to dinner with the boys. We haven't been out to a restaurant in a while as a family, so it should be an interesting experience!! Will probably need to actually do some exercise this weekend to burn off the extra calories. Food, here I come.....Namaste!!

I really like the Card Positioning Systems Sketch #162.

I initially thought of adding buttons but I had these great digi freebies from My Graphico, so when ahead and used those.

The colours are a little more vivid because of the lighting. I really liked how it turned out!!

I'm also entering this card for the Caardvarks challenge which asks us to make a new baby card. I can't wait to send this card to someone who has a new baby girl!!!

Realised that the deadline for the PPA 36 challenge is almost.....now. The theme is flowers. Here's my card....

Really loved this quote that I found on the internet and decided to use it. The flowers stamps are from SU, the DP is from Papertrey, and the cardstock is from my stash. I used my printer for the center quote and printed out the ovals which I then cut out!! I can't wait for my die-cutting machine to arrive, so I can give my scissors and fingers a rest!!! Namaste!!

My little ones slept well last night. The older one had a fever and a touch of diarrhea yesterday, but seems to be doing much better this morning. I didn't hear a peep from the baby till 7:30 am!! There's nothing like a good night sleep and waking up with happy children!!

I took on the Sketch Saturday Challenge #97 last night. The colours are from the Monday Colour Challenge on Stamp TV (Black, Yellow & White) and I'm also entering this card for the Charisma Cardz Challenges #14 (Thank You!!).

The DP is from the La Creme Stack by DCWV and the yellow ribbon from my stash. I used my sewing machine around the edges. My SU scalloped circle punch and Martha Stewart circle punches came in handy. I don't have any tool to create an oval, so that's my representation of it!! The center image is from a box of teas my friend gifted me. And the the sentiment is from the Delightful Dahlia collection by Raspberry Suite.

My friend/neighbour across the street has been very generous with handing over a bunch of stuff that her boys don't use anymore. Honestly, I'm more than thrilled with "recycling" toys and clothes!! She hasn't let me pay for any of the stuff and I've been wanting to thank her with something special. I thought this would be a great thank you card for her, and I'm giving her some handmade cards that she could use for Mother's Day or any other occasion. I figured since she would be spending money on these anyway, I might as well gift her something she can use. I hope she likes them!! Namaste!

Little feet...

My neighbours just had their fourth baby girl. All their daughters are such angels, and this one will no doubt be too. K was born in December and I haven't had a chance to give her a little something to celebrate her arrival on our beautiful planet. I was inspired by the Card Positioning System Sketch 161 to make this really sweet card for the baby.

I'm also entering this card for the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge 53 - Sugar & Spice & Everything Nice!! Of course, that's what little baby girls are made of!!!

The dimensions of the top most rectangle (square in the case of my card) is a little off compared to the original sketch, but I'm really happy with the overall product. All I have to do now is shop for a really cute summer outfit, which I'm going to "ooh" and "ahh" over several times, before I pack it. And then I'm going to stop by their home, and get my little baby girl fix!!!! I love little babies!!! They truly are reflective of how beautiful life and creation are. God's little miracles!! Namaste.

I couldn't resist making yet another card for the PDCC Challenge #23....

The sketch is loosely based on that from Card Patterns #58......

I used an Eclatte Prima flower from the Flourishes Boutique. The DP is from the Triple Pack Collection - Seaside, Garden Gala, and Nature's Storybook, again from Flourishes. The ribbon is from my stash and the base card stock is the vintage cream from Perfect Match Papertrey Cardstock Sampler Collection.

I'm also entering this card in the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC61) - the "bought it, use it" challenge. I've been hoarding the Prima flowers for quite a while, and decided to finally pull them out since I've been given permission to do so:).

I'm reading to my son's preschool class tomorrow. A little nervous about it, since I always worry that the kids may not understand my accent (being from India and all that!). But they've enjoyed my reading in the past, so this should be no different. Well, goodnight and namaste!!

I wasn't too happy with the first card I'd made for the Play Date Cafe Challenge #23. So I went ahead and made this one....

Had a really great morning with the kids...gymnastics, park, pizza hut and ice cream!! Hoping I can grab a wink while the baby naps and my older one watches some TV. Namaste!!

Crafting Therapy

So my father went back to India after staying with us for almost 6 months!!! It was wonderful having him with through the dreaded winter. He's such a great dad; helping me out with almost everything around the house and with the kids. I was able to dedicate a lot of time to improving on my card making skills with him around. Well, it's been a week since he's left, and I wish I had more than 24 hours in day!! After a really really long and exhausting (in a good way!!) day, I really didn't think I would have the inclination or energy to do anything, let alone make a card. But once the kids were in bed, the kitchen cleaned, and everything was peaceful and quiet, I set my DVR to record my favourite show and headed to my craft table....

I made this first card based on the sketch from Card Patterns #58.

Creative Conflicts!!

It's funny how sometimes when the challenge requires the simplest of colours, I can't find the right stuff!!! I haven't attempted a Pals Paper Arts Challenge in a while, and thought I would tackle the PPA #36 Color Challenge...

These colours are soft and beautiful and so reflective of spring! The DT have created some fantastic cards which you must check out. I didn't have the exact colours in card stock or ink, so I tried to match my supplies as best as I could. Anyway, here's what I created....

I'm pretty sure I've covered all three colours!!! Anyway, I'm off to enjoy the sunshine with my boys!! Namaste!!

I got an opportunity to combine two really awesome challenges: the sketch from 2S4Y (Kazans's Sketch 49)...

......and the colours from The Color Throwdown Challenge #86 - Yoyo Yellow, Garden Green or Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.

I used this really great DP - Origins from the Basic Grey collection. The center flower piece is actually from the cover of a beautiful box of teas that my girlfriend gifted me. I'm thinking this would be the perfect birthday card for her! Really proud that I was able to recycle a gift!!

I have two cards that I managed to make yesterday. The first is based on the Clean & Simple FTL 84 sketch.

I made this with a special friend in mind, who's birthday is coming up soon.

The second card is based on the sketch from Our Creative Corner Sketch Challenge 8 while the colours are blue, red and kraft for the Play date Cafe Challenge 22.

Kept both cards really simple. Have to wake the baby up now....Namaste!!

A special card for a special girl...

A cousin's daughter will be turning 2 at the end of the month. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance to meet this little princess and interact with her, but all the pics I receive by email tell me that she must be a very charming young lady. I'm so thrilled that I could use Laura's Sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You to make a card for this really sweet girl.

The colours seem a lot more vivid than they are actually, probably due to my messing around with the photoshop tools!! The absolutely adorable image is a Nellie Snellen stamp (Koetie), which I won for this card that I created for an ABC Challenge.

I can't wait to mail this card tomorrow morning. Namaste!!!

Reds & Yellows & Greens, oh my!!!!

I just ordered some DP from the Basic Gray series.....I'm absolutely in love with the bright and vibrant colours. Each sheet is so unique in itself, and lends such a great dimension to the card. I got to work as soon as I opened that box!!

I've attempted a Pals Paper Arts Sketch after a really long time. I know that the team primarily use SU supplies, so I tried to incorporate at least one SU stamp; the flower. Here's my interpretation of the sketch...

My next card is for the Everything But the Kitchen Sink Challenge #11. I really liked their sketch as well, since it was open to so many different interpretations.

The "poofy flowers" are something I learned to make on the Raspberry Suite blog site by the very creative and talented Dawn McVey. You can go here to watch the tutorial video. I used tissue paper that I recovered from my son's birthday gift bags!! Trying to "go green"!!!

I really liked the sketch from Lord Have Mercy for the Tuesday Sketch Challenge #65.

Here's my card....

I finally used some bright DP and the butterfly is a sticker from the 99 cent collection at Target!! I used my sewing machine and the really neat scalloped circle punch from SU. I initially thought the stitching was too close and a lot but I kind of like how you really can't notice each zigzag.

Okay, okay, I know the title is a little lame, but after an evening of my sons running around the house with my friend's kids nonstop for 2 hours, that was all I could think of!! I have to admit, it was a fun evening. The T.V was switched off, the kids were burning off excess energy, my friend and I were drinking tea, and chatting.... well, we tried to have a conversation amidst all the chaos!! Overall, this evening made me reminded me of how wonderful friendship can be.

I absolutely love Laura's Sketch (47) this week on 2S4Y. It's one of those sketches that you can do so much with. I found myself going back to some DP that I'd already used. Guess I was playing a little safe. I really would like to try and make another card with some brighter colours. But I guess, at the end of the day, I was in a mood for something mellow.

I of course used my handy dandy sewing machine (this is from watching too much "Blue's Clues" with my son)!! I realised that the card doesn't have any stamps at all, but I guess it's the paper crafting that could also count, right? Well, hopefully I should have another card done by tomorrow for this challenge. I'm going to try to find the brightest, most cheerful DP, I promise!!! Namaste!!!

Today was a great Monday. Exhausting, but great. This week's going to roll by so quickly, and before I know it, my first born will be 4 years old by next week. He's such an incredible child; full laughter and smiles, always willing to give you a hug...It's amazing how such a tiny creature can become such an important part of your life. I have all these great pics of him as a little baby, and I thought I would create a scrap book page for him instead of a card. Better get to work on it soon!!

Today's card is for Card Patterns Challenge 54.

I turned the sketch clockwise to accommodate the length of the flowers. I was trying to combine two completely different colours with the green, but changed my mind when I saw the ribbon in my stash.

The inside of the card has a simple "Happy Mother's Day" stamped in it. Well, I'm off to bed a little early today. Can't wait to start on my son's birthday project!! G'night and Namaste!!!

Today was such a beautiful day. The sun was out, the snow was melting, and the kids were all out on their bikes. My older son and I headed out to hang out with the "gang" and what an amazing afternoon we had!! Can't wait for spring.....

Today's card is a reflection of how I'm feeling inside; all sunny and warm and happy. I used the sketch from OCC Sketch Challenge 5.

I combined a couple of challenges, which went so well together. I used some lacy fabric, did some stitching, used some brads and watercolour crayons, kept it really really simple and this is what I created....

I just received my new supplies from SU and I am in love with the stuff!!! I ordered a gel pen, that I don't think I can live without now!! How did I ever manage without it???? It is one of the best tools I've used on my cards. I finally figured out why faux stitching is such a rage!!! The sketch is based on the Mojo Monday Challenge 128.

Second entry for Just Add Ink

I decided to do a scrapbook page out of the blue. Actually, I was inspired by the Just Add Ink DT creations (Amanda Reddicliffe & Sarah Klass). Loved what both have done with the sketch for Just Add Ink Challenge #6.

So I pulled out some pics of my first born and got to work....

My handwriting is terrible but I realised that journaling is really part of making the whole scrapbooking process personal and special. At least, it's legible!!! My friend very generously allowed me to use her Cricut to cut out the letters on the side. Phew, I finally can add a third page to my scrap book!!!! Hope the week is going well for everyone. Looks like we won't have any snow for a while. It's beautiful these mornings and I can't wait for spring.....Namaste!!!

Today's card is for the Card Positioning System Challenge 156. I absolutely love this sketch and would love to create more based on it.

The DP is Ancestory.com: Marcella by K and the rhinestones are from my stash. I cut out the flowers from one of the DPs, since it was all part of the same collection, and seemed to go well with the rest of the card.

Card Patterns Blog Hop

I picked up some accessories from Target today and was thrilled that I could use them on this card. My creation is based on the Card Patterns Sketch 53.

I really enjoyed using my machine to sew all the panels and pieces. The colours are a little sedate but I love the way the flower pops against it. And the sentiment, which is an epoxy sticker, seemed perfect. I really enjoyed following this sketch, and might do another one with completely different colours. All that stitching reminds me that I have to go buy fabric to make valences for my family room asap!!!!

A lazy Sunday afternoon...

The two things I love the most (after my husband and children, of course!!), are food and sleep. I love to stretch out on the couch on the weekends, covered in a warm blanket, and take a little snooze. My hubs swears that if he could gift me a week's worth of sleep, he would!! The only thing keeping me away from my favourite occupation (as my sister jokes) is updating my blog to show you my latest creations.

This first one is for the Play Date Cafe Challenge #18. It's a 'Color Splash' Challenge....inspired by the photo below. As the DT of PDC have mentioned: "Color Splash is simply black & white with a 'bit' of color". The sketch is based on the Just Add Ink Challenge #6. I really love their sketches, and figured out a great way to combine these wonderful challenges.

The card stock I've used has more of a cream in it, but I absolutely love this DP. The rhinestones in the center of the flowers are actually the "splash of colour". Not sure if you can tell, but they's actually a beautiful teal blue. I painstakingly cut out the flowers and really couldn't think of any other way to display them on the card. I'm not sure why the base card stock looks more brown for some reason. I guess it's almost black but not quite!!

I had such a hard time trying to match the right colours, and finally came up with this......I love how bright and cheerful it turned out. I did a little stitching again with my handy machine.

The final card is for the Color Throwdown Challenge #81.

I really really struggled with this one, but I'm sooooooo thrilled with the eventual product. Honestly, I think all those rhinestones are so inspiring!!! I couldn't find the right sentiment or paper to put it on. I finally found the center piece among my scrap booking stuff. The pink just stood out against the brown card stock that I cut out and seemed to tie the whole thing together. This really is one of my favourites so far. And it's so different from all my other creations.

Am I a scrapaholic???

And by that I mean, do I hoard my scraps, instead of just bidding them goodbye on trash day? You bet I do!!! The result being that I have two cloth bags full of them, sitting under my craft table. I keep meaning to go through them and organise them the best I can, but at the moment, the amount looks a little too intimidating!

I used my sewing machine again last night.......

I had a slight headache from squinting to make sure I was stitching in a straight line but was that worth it or what?!!!! I've been trying to combine challenges but I wanted to make things simpler for myself, and just worked with the great sketch from Crazy for Challenges - C4C25. O.K, so I just figured out how to include the image URL, etc, etc (Applause, please!!!!).

Now, if only I can stitch up some nice drapes for my family room, my home would look more complete!!! I'm attempting to make my blog look more professional. The main thing I keep forgetting to include is a list of supplies, etc that I've used. I realise how important and useful it is, when I view other blogs. The challenge for me though is that I use stuff from all over the place, and not just one company, resulting in an epic of a list. I think with the card above though, I should be able to stick to a decent sized one!! Sankari, I borrowed your format, if you don't mind:). This is the best time of the night, when both my kids are asleep, and I get to sit at the computer in peace. I went ahead and ordered some stuff from Stampin' Up and for some reason, that kind of inspired me to make some more cards today.

This one is for the new Delightful Sketches Challenge.

This next one is for the Mojo Monday Challenge #127 (Sketch) and Kween Bee Kreations (monochromatic challenge).

This final one that came out better than expected is for Tuesday Morning Sketches #34 and 2S4Y: Laura's Sketch 46.

I had such a blast making all these cards since the challenges were all so different and interesting. Every time I feel I'm running out of creativity, I manage to pull something out of the hat.

Can't wait for my new supplies to arrive...I am sooooo excited!!!! I can't wait to create more. As I mentioned in my earlier blogs, my son and I have been making cards for his friends' birthdays, and we've been receiving so many compliments on how unique our cards are. I am beyond thrilled, and I hope we continue our card making sessions for as long as possible. I so look forward to putting small cards with words of wisdom and love in my sons' lunch bags; sending them cards of appreciation and encouragement when they go to college, and just simply because I love them. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing your children smile and laugh. I think I might just sneak into their rooms to give them a hug and kiss again! Namaste!!!

Just 3 colours!

I really love the Play Date Cafe Challenge this week (PDCC17). The card required just 3 simple colours, red, brown and linen. I stuck with exactly that....plain, red, plain brown, and well, linen.

I realised too late that I could have done some stitching but I'll have to save that for another card. I must apologise for the smudges on the vellum. I need to find a glue that doesn't show. The pic below is a little yellow because.....I made the same mistake of clicking at night:(

O.K, one of my favourite shows is on tonight, and I'm all set to stretch my legs, sip on a cup of hot tea, and listen to some great singing. Namaste!

I thought I was ahead of schedule but I missed a deadline to one of the challenges and I 'm a little bummed out about that. Well, life goes on, huh? So let me stop moping about it and focus on the other challenges. I entered a card yesterday for the Card Positioning Systems Challenge 155 (Part 1) but I decided to make another one, using the colours from the JUGS Challenge #21 (Raspberry, Ivory, Chocolate & Coral).

I've never really used any "bling" on my cards but was inspired by Sankari's creations (Sankari's Sunshine Corner). I love how she decorates with liquid pearls; really gives the card that extra "wow" factor. So, "bling" is certainly on my list of things to buy ( I love that word; bling, bling, bling.......Ha ha). I have all these cards that I make for different challenges just sitting around on different shelves. I thought it would be a great idea to send them back with my Dad so my parents and in-laws could use them in India. I'm sure they would love them.

Tomorrow's another school day, and then the weekend will be approaching fast. Can't believe how time flies these days. Speaking of time....need to go finish dinner. (For those of you who don't know me yet, I love my food)!!!! Namaste!!

Colours and Patterns

I really have to stop taking pics of my cards at night. Firstly, the colours look all wrong, and secondly,...... the colours look all wrong!!! I end up finishing a card just minutes away from the deadline, which is invariably after sunset. And considering it's winter at the moment, there is no way I can get any kind of natural lighting after 5 pm. Oh well, like I keep mentioning in my blogs, I have a lot to learn.

I created a card after dinner for the The Colour Throwdown #80 (light green, rust and burgundy), using the sketch from Card Positioning Systems #155 (Part 1). The ribbon used really is a burgundy colour, really, really, really!!! I know it looks more red and that's because of...refer to paragraph one, please! I didn't mess around too much with the sketch and interpreted it as I saw it.

So, tomorrow we're expecting rain showers instead of the humongous amounts of snow we received last week. I'll take the rain any day over the frozen stuff. The weather was actually beautiful today, and we all ventured out in our snow gear to play with the neighbours in their backyard. Did a little snow tubing down their hill, threw snowballs at each other, and now I'm a certified Midwesterner!!! Hmm, might even try a little ice-skating before the season is over!! I always seem to be rushing with my entries. Well, at least I have a clean kitchen:)...and dinner is ready!! Hurrah for me!! This card is for the Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge #33. I would have loved to spend more time on it but this was the best I could do within a short period of time.

I have been experiencing serious "stamper's block" all day. I'm not even sure if that sentence is grammatically correct, but you get what I mean, right? I tried combining challenges, doing them individually....nothing seemed to be working. I keep using the excuse that I don't have all the right tools, but seriously, technology (or lack of) shouldn't get in the way of creativity. I'm still trying to find my style, and I know what I'm trying to develop. I'm just not sure how to get there.

I've been stamping since October 2009, and the problem is that I'm in a rush to reach a level that a lot of stampers have got to after several years of being in the field. Of course, there are those whose cards are just amazing right from the get go. And then there's me, who's kind of floating around. Oh my gosh, I sound depressed!!! But I'm really not:) I'm just venting a little.

Having gone back and forth with all the different challenges, I decided to try the ABC Challenge : O is for One Paper. I kept telling myself, "Keep it simple", and then felt inspired to use my sewing machine. I realised after the card was done, that it could be entered for 3 more challenges!! Sophisti-cat Challenge #22 and Crafty Creations Challenge #55 both required stitching. And Creative Belli Blog Challenge #85 asked for butterflies or dragonflies. Well, I decided to give them one butterfly. Hope that counts!!!

I took a close-up of the card so you can see my perfect stitching skills (Ahem!!!). And the other pic shows the front and back of the paper I used. The colours are completely different but it really is just one paper that I used!

Well, I think I'm beginning to feel a little motivated now!! Hoping to attack more challenges this evening, depending on how long it takes to clean my kitchen. I'm off...Namaste!!

Friday, Friday, Friday!!!

Can't believe a whole week has gone by so quickly. The weekend zooms by, then it's Monday, and then Thursday is trash day, and the weekend comes again. My older son has an interesting personality and he says things that really crack me up. The other day in the car, he says, "Amma (Mom), when can I be a boy?". I was a little puzzled with his question, but I answered, "But you are a boy!". To which he said, "Oh, that's right!! I didn't notice!". My little one will be two in June and is such a great kid. He smiles all day, and sings and babbles. They both bring me and my husband so much joy.

I've been on a whole stash of cards for the MOMS Club that I belong to. I was thrilled when they agreed to buy greetings cards from me, even if it was a really nominal price. I'm just glad I get to share my creations with others. I ended up making 24 birthday and 8 "new baby" cards. I did rely on past challenge sketches and colour combinations but I'm quite thrilled to say that they've all come out beautiful.

Last night, I decided to take on the EBTKS Sketch Challenge #9. I absolutely love this sketch. It's simple and straightforward. I love all the different interpretations by the design team and other card makers. I kept it really really simple, relying on some cool DP and embellishments from the Hul-la-ba-loo collection (Making Memories). I used a sentiment sticker from my scrap booking stash.

I just figured out how to create a watermark on the pic with my blog address!! So much to learn!!

My 11th year wedding anniversary is coming up this weekend. I'm so blessed to be married to the most wonderful man. He has been with me through all my challenging and joyous moments and I love him to death! (OK, that's enough with the mush!!). Can't figure out what kind of card to make him. I might end up writing him a letter instead. Haven't done that in a long time, and it will be something different.

I've missed several challenges over the week, but I'm ready to get back into challenge mode again. Can't wait to create some more. Hope all of you had a great week, and enjoy your weekend. You know, when they say that every moment counts, they're not kidding. Time flies by so quickly, and all you have left are memories. So make some good ones:) Namaste!!

I woke up to find my husband standing by the bed, waiting to give me a card. I realised that I hadn't really thought of giving him one in return and then figured that I had all these Valentine themed cards sitting on my craft table. Every time, he would see my new creation, he would ask, "Is this one for me?". They're all for you, my darling!! They're all for you!!

I attended the stamp camp with Marci Cyphert, a SU demonstrator, and it was so much fun. Firstly, she has a home that makes you want to just stand there and go, "Awwwww!!". And then, her bubbly personality coupled with that of all the other wonderful ladies, makes me want another hour of card making with her! We made some Easter themed cards. I left out the sentiments on some of them, since I figured I could use the cards for other occasions as well. We also made this really cute milk carton using the die-cutting machine and decorated it with an embossed chocolate bunny image. So cute!!!!!

I have two cards to show you in this blog. One is for the Crafty Creations Challenge #54 (Friends). I used my Gina K. stamp from the "Framed Friends" stamp set by Asela Hopkins. It has a really sweet sentiment that goes with it. The DP is from my scrap-booking stash and the ribbon is from Gina K. as well. I used my blender pens and water colour crayons from Stampin' Up. I still have to work on my shading and colouring though!

The second card is for the ABC Challenge - N is for New. I used the stamp from my newly acquired stamp prize from Gina K. The collection is "Lovely Shelf" stamp set by Nina Brackett. The DP is from a collection called La Creme Stack by DCWV, available at JoAnn, the ribbon from Gina K. and the sentiment from my Stampin' Up collection.

My son is off from school tomorrow AGAIN!! I have to figure out how to entertain him. We do have a card to make for his friend's birthday coming up on Friday. Maybe that'll keep him occupied for an hour at least. And then a couple of games of Chutes and Ladders and several books.....I'll figure something out tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the hub's big 4-0!!! I've been working on a card with my son but need to finish it. I found a really great photograph which is on the front of the card. And then next week is our 11th year anniversary. How time flies!!! Need to work on a card for that. Nothing from my stash seems perfect enough, but I know he'll love even a post-it with a licked on sticker!!! Will post images of the cards soon. Till then, Namaste!!

Snowed-in week???

I'm soooo thankful I have my stamping to keep me sane while the weather outside seems to be getting more and more brutal. Of course, there are the multitude of chores, but besides that I really can't think of how else I could have spent my time, cooped up in the house. I'm hoping school is on tomorrow, because my older son is really craving his usual schedule and missing his friends. Besides, I think we're both tired of hearing me say, "You do that one more time, and you get a time-out!!!".

I attempted Lauras' Sketch from 2S4Y and used the colours from the Color Q Challenge # 19 (Regal Rose, Blush Blossom, Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip and White). I have to say that the card is a very loose interpretation of both challenges, but pretty enough to show it to you!!!

The stamp is from the Gina K. collection called Lovely Shelf by Nina Brackett. This stamp collection is the first that I've won so far!!! Yes, I actually won a challenge a couple of weeks ago, and it made me feel like a kid eating cake for the first time!! Yippee!!!

This next card is based on the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches #32 and the colors were inspired by the Color Dare Challenge #55 (Crushed Curry, Kiwi Kiss, Brilliant Blue, and Kraft). Oh, that reminds me about cooking dinner soon!!!

I got this really sweet image of the girl with the flower basket from a really neat website called Bee Crafty. I think this was the only freebie available because I didn't seem to find anymore. If any of you decide to check out the website and finding anything else that's interesting, let me know!!

This final card is based on a sketch from the Just Us Girls Challenge #19. I haven't done as much layering as I did with this one. I had an image I'd already coloured in, that I had downloaded from Digital Doodling. There are some really cute images here if you're looking.

The DP is this really gorgeous collection called La Creme Stack by DCWV. Some of the prints has flocking on it, which gives it an incredible feel and look. I chose the "believe" sentiment, since it almost looked like the girl was making a wish with her eyes closed. I added a little glitter glue to the image (not sure if you can see too clearly).

I'm off to begin another card. I have another stamping camp coming up this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. It will be great to learn some new techniques and meet fellow stampers. Not sure what the theme might be but I'm sure it'll be fun!! Well, I have to try and get my older one to bed before he asks me for his tenth snack of the night!! G'night and Namaste!!

Stamping on a snow day

I didn't even attempt to venture out of the house today. The news channel declared it a snow day, and that's exactly how I treated it. I managed to have my older son's friend come over in the evening, so he wouldn't go completely cuckoo from being cooped up. I didn't have to cook since I made a feast last evening to enjoy with some friends, while watching the big game. I did a load of laundry, answered some emails, cleaned the kitchen. But best of all, I got this card done.....

I found this China Belle image at Digital Doodling. Isn't she sweet? I decided to go with the Play Date Cafe (PDCC15) colours, which were green, blue, rust and black. The sketch is from website I just discovered called Card Patterns (Sketch 50). I had to rely on my handy paper scissors since I don't have a die-cutting machine. (I let my hubs know that I would love one of these as an anniversary gift, instead of a ring!!).

I usually begin by selecting my DP and working backwards, choosing my image at the very end. But since I had this really cute digi stamp, I began with that. I would have loved to add more flowers and make the card more complex, but I'd had enough of cutting, and I figured I might as well stop before I added something I didn't like.

The Play Date Cafe is looking for new members for their design team. I realise that I don't have much experience compared to so many other stampers and card makers, but there's no harm in giving it a try, right? So, first thing tomorrow, I'm sending in my "resume" and hopefully, I might be considered. Oh, that reminds me; I have to start working on taking better pics, since that is a definite requirement. Can't wait for the sun to come up to begin clicking away!! Namaste:)

Going round in circles!!!

I had a really hard time doing this card. The title says it all!! I was trying to combine two challenges and I didn't realise it would as tricky as it was. I worked all morning, while my kids cooperated by playing and watching a little TV, and was finally done with the card after lunch!!! I think it took so long because I changed my mind about the DPs several times, and then was trying to coordinate the colours as best as possible. There's a lot more layering on the card than usual, and many different shapes!! All in all, I would say it was a fruitful morning!

Still working on trying to get good pics of my projects. But this seems brighter than my earlier attempts. Anyway, here are the different challenges I'm entering this card for:

My jaw dropped when I saw how much snow had accumulated overnight!! I decided that there was nothing better to do than make another card, while my hubs decided how to tackle the arduous task of getting rid of all that frozen vapor!!!

I was running out of ideas and my creativity seemed to be dwindling. And then I figured I could check out some digital freebies and I found a really cute one!! This image is from the website stamping.craftgossip.com (digital love birds stamp). It took me a while to colour it in and cut it out, but I was really pleased with the end result. I'm trying really hard to stay away from love themed cards, but I keep going back to those subconsciously!! Guess I'll just have to wait till February 15th to be inspired by other themes.

The colours are from the Color Throwdown #78 and the sketch is from Just Add Ink Challenge 3. I might try and enter another card for both challenges if I have the time. I found a few more digital freebies, and I can't wait to use them.

We had a great evening out, celebrating our neighbour's son's birthday. It was great to see everyone from our street after such a long time. I'm not known to step out when winter hits us, so it really felt like a reunion of sorts. The kids had a blast, and I was just thrilled to be out, sharing some quality time with great friends. Finding my creative mojo!!!

Ok, ok, I know I have to work on my blog titles. Seriously, I think and think, and finally come up with an unintelligent blank. And then I think some more, and I throw some words together, and voila!!! Ok, let's move on to better stuff. I created this card for the Mojo Monday Challenge 124 and the Creative Card Crew Challenge 44 (Valentines), hence the very "original" title. Ha ha!!! I'm also entering this card for SophistiCat Challenge #20 (Love).

I decided to stamp the leaf background with a block I'd bought from.......you guessed right, JoAnn. Everything on the card is from the store actually. I really have to get more organised and start listing the supplies used and their source. That's one other thing I have to work on other than the blog title thingi!!

Can't believe it's Friday already. My hubs and I are planning on attending an evening of Jazz but it's supposed to snow 6- 12 inches tonight. Oh well, we could always just open a bottle of wine and watch a movie. His birthday is coming up and I'm still not sure what kind of card to make for him. We haven't done presents in years but this time I bought him a book that I thought he might enjoy reading. He's a history buff, and I found a great book about the gypsies; a group of people he's always been fascinated with. Hope he likes it.

My computer had a virus and I wasn't able to upload pics or write my blog for 3 whole days!!! Oh, the torture of it!! Seriously, I was experiencing blog withdrawal yesterday, and then my wonderful husband came home early from work, and fixed it. Well, actually we ended up staring at our computer screen for almost 4 hours while some genius tech guy in India logged onto our system and worked a miracle!! It felt like watching two movies back to back, but with no sound, no pics, and no story. Anyway, here I am again!!!!

I found the chipboard flower cutouts at JoAnn, and somehow thought it went great with the floral DP. The sketch is from Tuesday Morning Sketches #31 and the colours are from Color Q Challenge #18. I really liked this sketch, because it's simple and can be interpreted in so many ways. I stayed with the original and didn't try anything out of the ordinary. The colours are very pretty too; Melon Mambo, So Saffron, Old Olive, Baja Breeze & White (I love anything that is food-related!!).

The sentiment is actually on vellum and is from my scrap-booking collection. I think it had something to do with family and heritage. This one really stood out and I wanted to put something different other than the usual "Happy blah blah" that I use.

Oh, how sweet it is to be back in the blogging world again!!! Need to call the hubster to thank him. B'bye and Namaste!

Thinking out of the box

I decided to do away with my paper cutter for a while, and tear instead. I have to admit that it was not only therapeutic but allowed me to look over inconsistencies in lines. I had attempted to make a card for the Play Date Cafe Challenge (PDCC14), but wasn't happy with it at all. I was really challenged by the colours (orange, lilac, dusky pink, dark green & white). Well, let's just say that the lilac and dusky pink kind of threw me off. So, I put away my stuff and forgot about it for a while.

I browsed through my stash again today, when I realised that the deadline for the challenge was tonight. So I went with the tearing. And I was also inspired to bring out my sewing machine and use it.

This really is a toned down version of the colours displayed on the challenge page, but I kind of just went with it. I know that white was a colour requirement, and I noticed that it was actually in the areas where the paper was torn, so I didn't add the colour specifically. Thinking I'll take a short nap before my little one wakes up. Namaste.

Dream a little dream

My ultimate dream is to have one room in my home dedicated entirely to my stamping and crafting. Everything neatly labeled and organised, within arm's reach. Stamps and accessories for every occasion. Sigh!! I have a huge smile on my face right now, just thinking about that. And then of course, the picture wouldn't be complete without my two boys, running around chasing each other, and attacking the pretend monster (who seems to be in every corner of the house these days!!). Now that would be perfect:)

For now, I'm just grateful that my husband has let me take over the dining table completely. My kids have become accustomed to all the stuff that is tempting enough to touch, but keep away from it. My older son and I bond over some stamping and craft making quite often, and those really are the best moments. Especially when he says, "Amma, you cannot touch my crayons because they are expensive!".

I'd better get to the point before the deadline for the challenge is over!! This card is for the Color Throwdown #77 Challenge. The colours required were Elegant Eggplant, Baja Breeze and Certainly Celery (I love how everything in life is food related!!). Honestly, I didn't have any supplies with those specific names on them, so I looked for the closest that I could find. And this is what I made.......

I used one of my favourite SU stamps and of course, my beloved butterfly punch. I really like the colours the team has thrown at us this week. They would actually be a great combination for a bedroom or even a bathroom. Hmmmm, I'm thinking craft room even!!! Anyway, I'm off to watch the Grammy's now. Haven't been watching much TV lately, since I've started stamping. Which is a good thing. But there are some guilty pleasures that I can't let go off. Good night and Namaste!!

Just a little note to say....

I have so many Valentine's Day cards made for different challenges and I have no idea what to do with them!!! I might as well start making a list of all the special people in my life and send them one. And there are so many of them; friends, cousins, my husband, of course.... The list is really long when I think of all those who've affected my life positively and whom I'm so thankful for. Isn't that a wonderful feeling? When you can sit back with your eyes closed, and all these beautiful faces float by in your mind, reminding you of how precious and special life is with them?

I sat down in the afternoon and looked through my scraps to make a mini card for the Finally Friday Challenge at the Kwerner Design Blog. I decided to not to have any hearts on my card, since I wanted to make it versatile enough to give anyone.

I actually found the basket of flowers all stamped, coloured and cut out, sitting in my bowl of "valuable" scraps, and went ahead used it. The ribbon is a pretty pink, but looks a little different because of the lighting. I stamped the sentiment in white ink, so it would pop against the purple and coordinate with the white flowers on the DP. There's something about flowers that make me smile, and I think this is probably one of my favourite cards so far! I need to go sing to my fussy 19 month old now.....Namaste!

My little artist in the making!

I have to brag a little about my almost 4 year old son. He helped me make this card for our friend's son's first birthday today. I helped him stamp the image, and he did such a great job with the colouring. He's not the best in his preschool class when it comes to colouring images. In fact, most of the time, it looks like something run over by a truck!! But this.....this was definitely a work of art!!

(Please note how he's managed to colour "inside the lines"!!!)

And now, moving onto my blog entries.... (Gosh, I sound like the host of a shopping network!!).

The PPA27 Snowflake Challenge made me pull out my SU Snowflake stamp and coordinating sentiment after a long time. As usual, I just jumped into the process without a sketch in mind, and initially came up with a card, that was really unsatisfactory. And then, while I was patting my little one to sleep, I actually pictured what I wanted on my card. I guess, sometimes just sitting in the dark with my eyes closed is what I need to do for inspiration!

I know it's not the most unique card, but it looked better than the first one.

I'm amazed at the multitude of talented stampers and crafters (if there is such a word!) out there!! Each time, I click on a link, it takes me to someone's blog that has a "wow" factor. I never imagine being a part of an online community that is so vibrant and creative. Thank you all for allowing and inspiring me to discover myself!! Namaste!!

Stamping Marathon!!

Yup, I definitely had the stamping bug yesterday. I sat down to tackle one challenge and ended up creating 3 cards. I actually forgot to watch 'American Idol' (which I never ever do!!), but my wonderful husband remembered to record it for me. I can't believe how much television I've given up since I've started stamping and card making. It is truly such a therapeutic experience for me, and I love how each card emerges gradually while I'm playing around with my supplies.

This first one is for the Color Q Challenge #17, and I used the sketch from the Tuesday Morning Sketches Challenge #30.

I would love to do another one, combining both challenges and do a little more stamping. Depends on how much time I have.

The next two are for 2 Sketches 4 You (Laura's Sketch 44). I really enjoyed this simple sketch. I'm still waiting to buy a great die-cutting machine, so I can get those scalloped circles and ovals. I have a feeling I might add those to all my cards, once I'm able to make them!! They're so pretty and give the card such character.

I recently purchased a butterfly punch and I'm a little obsessed with it, since all my recent cards seem to have at least one butterfly on them!! Yes, I'd promised myself not to purchase anymore stamping supplies but I happened to be at JoAnn's the other day, and I caved in. Bought myself some gorgeous card stock as well, which I've used in all 3 cards above.

Need to start working on cards for my son's class soon. Don't want to overwhelm the kids with too much candy. Thinking I might throw in some cute stickers they could use in the gift bag. Well, I'm off to attack my other challenges....and use the butterfly punch again:). Namaste!!!

Pretty Simple

Sticking with the "less is more" resolution, I was thrilled at how this card turned out for the Play Date Cafe Challenge (PDCC13).

It took me a while to cut out the flowers and I'm hoping I find a punch for that stamp soon. But I love the final outcome. I'm still working on trying to get a better pic of my projects. Honestly, I didn't have a particular occasion in mind when I chose the sticker sentiment, but somehow, it just seemed to fit in with the flowers and the colours. I'm thinking this card would be great with different coloured hearts instead of the flowers as well. Will give it a try for a red heart challenge.

My son and I have been making birthday cards for all his friends. It not only keeps him busy but is allowing him to explore his creative side. He loves playing with his little stamp set of animals and flowers, and "writing" with his sticky letters. I wonder if my 19 month old will join us soon. I have a strange feeling, he might end up seeing how far he can toss the stamps, instead of using them for their real purpose!! Got to love their different personalities, huh!! Got to run now and get lunch ready. Namaste!!!

Recycling with love

Growing up in an Indian culture, recycling and reusing became such an integral part of growing up. We are known to turn jam jars, pasta bottles, and milk bottles into ideal food storage containers. Old clothes are cut up and stitched into soft comforters. Coffee grinds are used to enhance the colour of henna on our palms and strained tea leaves are added to the soil of potted roses, nurturing them.

It is with this same idea in mind that I thought the Paper Pals Challenge (PPA26) - Anything BUT a Card, would be a great way to add a little love to the Sunsweet Ones Pitted Prunes container. (By the way, if you haven't tried these already, run to the store right now and get them. They are absolutely delicious and my preschooler eats them like candy!!). Since I'm still fairly new to the world of stamping, I've been mostly making cards, but this was a great way to think outside the box (literally!!).

I decided to keep it very simple since the card stock was so pretty and I didn't really want to take away from it. Plus, I will confess that it was a little challenging for me because of the curved nature of the container:). I decorated the top as well, keeping it simple again.

Not sure if you can read the words around the heart, but it's one of my favourite SU stamps. I'm still uncertain who the recipient of this container would be. Would love to give it to the husband, filled with candy, but knowing him, he might finish it all in one night, and that would not bode well with his tummy!! Will sleep over it. Namaste!!

Late night inspired..

So I decide that I'm not sleepy enough after the Saints defeat the Vikings. My husband naturally thinks I'm completely nuts, but I realise I have only an hour before Color Q Challenge #16 closes. So here's the final product...

I must apologise for the quality of the picture. I couldn't seem to hold the camera still enough to get a good one, but I'm hoping this suffices. I tried to match the colours as much as possible. The only stamping ink I had was Pumpkin Pie, but I think the card stock fits in for the other colours. Well, not bad for a late night project, huh? And I'm off to bed; looking forward to another adventurous week with my two boys. Namaste!

The sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches #29 made think a little outside the box. Typically, I tend to center everything on my card, but I decided to try something a little different.

I really have to work on the lighting in my room but hopefully you can see the shading I've done on the flower with my crayons and blender pens. I don't consciously aim at doing a Valentine's card, but somehow I think because everyone is writing and talking about it, it translates onto my cards. Nothing wrong with a little extra love, huh? I have to get started my preschooler's cards for his cards. Not sure what I'm going to make yet, but I know I'm keeping it real simple. Less is more, right? Namaste!!

Pretty in Pink

My preschooler insists that I must love the colour pink since I'm a girl! It is a pretty colour, I must admit, but I've never taken to it since I strongly feel it doesn't suit my Indian skin tone. Crazy 4 Challenges (C4C21) made me dig out all the pink stuff I had stored away!!!

It really is a simple card but I think it sends the message across with all those hearts!!! Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone and Namaste!!

Oh, ribbon, where art thou???

If I don't get some ribbon by the end of next week, I'm seriously staging a protest!! I don't think anyone at home would really care. My husband thinks I have way too much stuff on the craft table anyway. It is a mess right now, I must confess, but I call it "the creativity in chaos" zone (You're allowed to laugh at that!!). My older son might actually be quite thrilled with the ribbon, since he can practice his scissor skills on them. Well, the bottom line is that I'd better get to some place quick and buy me some ribbon!

My card today is for the 2 Sketches 4 You Challenge (Kazan's Sketch 44). I really loved all the cards created by the 2S4Y Design Team. I thought I would try a new technique called "crayon resist", which you can learn more about on Stamp TV with Gina K. Designs. This card qualifies for the Blast From the Past Challenge stvbpss07 as well.

I really enjoyed trying out this technique. I'm not sure if you can tell the braiding in the ribbon on the left of the flowers. I thought I would try something new. I really like how the brads pop on the flowers. Which reminds me that I need a paper piercer as well, because I always end up with sore fingers from using the end of a pair of scissors!! Another item on the wish list...sigh!

I had the pleasure of giving a friend one of my cards for her birthday yesterday, and it was truly heartwarming to see the expression on her face. She was really impressed with the fact that I had taken the time to actually make it. And just that look on her face and her smile was so rewarding. I really enjoy the Mojo Monday challenges, and this one was no different. So Mojo Monday week 122 had a great sketch by Mary Fish. I think I'm the 260th entry or something!!! I'm hoping Julee won't have a visual overload by the time she gets to my card!!

I have a serious dearth of ribbon. I just have a few kinds which I acquired during my scrap booking frenzy 5 years ago. I definitely need more ribbon!! I decided to go with the "For You" sentiment instead of the usual "Happy Valentine's Day' because it was short and sweet and kind of personal. The great part about the sentiment is that I realised it makes the card so versatile. Hmmm, I might give to to my friend for her birthday tomorrow. Isn't that great? Just being able to pick a card from my pile of creations, instead of rushing to the store and buying some generic stuff? I love it!!

From mundane to marvelous!

So when I saw the picture of the TV stand on Everything But the Kitchen Sink Sketch Challenge 3, I really wasn't sure where designer Lynnette was headed. But then looking at the actual sketch, I realised what a cool way to be inspired! I'm going to be looking at my microwave oven in a whole new light from now on!!!

Here's my take on the sketch.

I will admit that I'm not too thrilled about the dullness of the photo, but if you take a closer look you'll notice that the card stock is really pretty. The butterfly stamp, sentiment and decorative punch are all SU acquisitions, which I loved using. At the moment, I'm quite content with tracing and cutting out the heart, but I know that soon I will be yearning for a die-cutting machine. Saving up for that big but absolutely necessary purchase!! Since I used the punches, I'm entering this card in Creative Card Crew: Challenge 43 (Punch It!).

I really need to get more card stock. Every time I run over to Target, I'm glancing at all the supplies they have in the scrap booking section, and it's so hard not pick up a little something. I have to resist, I have to resist!!! Anyway, this month is almost over, which means I can order more stuff from SU and other websites soon. Can hardly wait!!! Yup, I'm a husband's nightmare right now! Except, he can't help but smile at my creations, and feel proud of me (Awwwww!!). Got to finish another card for a birthday tomorrow. G'night and Namaste!

I decided to take on PDCC12 mainly because I'd never really used different shades of blue on a card before. I really like what I've created, because I've managed to stick with the whole "less is more" resolution for the year (Hurrah for me!!). This card was really easy to make but I think the beauty is in its simplicity.

I think I'm getting into the stamping flow of things these days. It almost seems natural to wander to my craft table every free moment I have. And that I have lots of these days, since my wonderful father is visiting from India, and keeping the kids busy!! Honestly, the only reason I'm able to churn out so many cards in a week is because "Mr. Mom" is here with us.

So here's my card for the TESC #98.

I somehow can't stop using this absolutely gorgeous card stock made by K&Company (Ancestory.com series). The large flower and sentiment are both SU stamps. I used watercolour crayons and a blender pen to colour in the flower. I still need a lot more practice with the whole shading thing, but I'm getting there, ladies, I'm getting there!!

I was over at my friend's home yesterday, so the kids could play. I brought over my supplies so I could introduce my scrap-booking pal to a little stamping. I surprised myself and her when I created a really sweet card in less than 15 minutes. Well, she's discovered another hobby now. And I am more than thrilled to share these crafting moments with such a dear friend.

Tomorrow is "just another manic Monday"....actually not quite, since my son has the day off from school. Which means, I don't have to get out of my PJ's as soon as I'm out of bed. Which also means, I can get some stamping done. Hurrah!!! I have to let you know that the stamping camp at Marci's was absolutely wonderful!! I made some new friends, created four beautiful Valentine's Day themed cards, and acquired some stamp sets that Marci was selling. Plus, I received my SU supplies the other day. I must have created at least 4 cards today with all the great stuff from Stampin' Up!!!

This is my card for the Inspiration Challenge at Pal Paper Arts (PPA25). The layout was based on a sketch at Our Creative Corner. I'd actually created another card for PPA25 but when I looked at this one, I thought it might actually work with the whole blog candy colours.

I am extremely pleased to say that I got to use my SU supplies for the flower. The card stock is from a collection by K&Company who teamed with Ancestory.com. Beautiful collection!! The ribbon and sentiment is something from my scrap-booking stash. Here's a close-up of the flower, which I'm really proud of. I used crayons from the Earth Elements Watercolor collection and a blender pen (both SU).The scalloped edges were created with a punch I got as a freebie with my purchase from the Stampin' Up Sale-A-Bration event!! I've been punchin' away all day with it!!

Less is more!!!

I have made it my resolution this year that I will simplify my life. And that includes my perspective on card-making and stamping as well. I usually have a tendency to fill up any space left on a card, which ends up looking like a colour stampede on paper. Not always a pretty sight!! Well, after creating approximately 50 cards or so, I can finally say that I have achieved my goal with the card below!! The card I've created qualifies for 5 different challenges....I know!!!! This is really my first attempt at being able to combine so many criteria on one card, but I must say that I'm quite proud of the end result. So here's my card, followed by the different challenges it's linked to...

Don't you just love the little froggy? Anyway, the first challenge was a birthday card for the Crazy for Challenges (C4C19).

The next one is the Just Us Girls #15 - A Technique Challenge, which required me to add stitching to my project. Well, I'm hoping the three buttons stitched on counts!!!

The Tuesday Morning Sketches #28 required me to use buttons AND bows on my card.

The Color Q Challenge #15 had a beautiful set of colours to play with, and this challenge was actually what I initially began working on. The palette was Basic Gray, Barely Banana, Certainly Celery, Pumpkin Pie and plain ol' white. I think the colours are pretty close to what was expected.

Finally, I'm pretty confident this card qualifies for the challenge at Our Creative Corner, which was to make something 3D.

Well, I need to get back to working on some more challenges!!! Still waiting on my SU supplies and getting a little antsy, but I know they should be here by the end of the week. Believe me, stamping isn't just about patience and dedication, but being money savvy as well. It's allowing me to use my creativity with the few tools that I have, while rewarding me with my new buys gradually. Now if I won the lottery tomorrow, would I spend it all on stamping supplies? Dotty about designs!!

I decided to take on the Crazy 4 Challenge#18 today - Polka dots!!! I'm not so crazy about wearing them, but I must admit that dots on a card do give it another dimension altogether. The whole layering process also allowed me to enter this card in the ABC Challenge: 'L is for...Layering'. I used the brightest card stock that I'd bought from JoAnn, which I had initially intended on using for my scrap booking (which unfortunately is now sitting in a dusty corner somewhere:( ). Even though I had a sketch from one of the Mojo Monday challenges to follow, I kind of went around in circles for the first one hour (Get it? Dots, circles, etc, etc. Ha ha!!) .Anyway, at one point I decided not to put too much thought into it and the final product turned out quite sweet. Guess, going with the flow is exactly what I need to continue doing!!

Don't you just love the bright colours!! I've discovered so many more websites where I can get ideas and post my entries. This is all so exciting for me, since I'm finally getting to share my talent with everyone. Of course, it's mind-boggling the kind of creativity floating around on the internet. Seriously inspiring!!! What's great is that each card you or someone else creates has a different personality. There really is no right or wrong. Well, that's my spiel for now!! Becky Fleck's Caardvarks Card Sketch forced me to create a Valentine's Day Card! I really love the simplicity in the design. The Caardvarks Gallery had some really great interpretations. I found the brightest card stock I could find, and threw in some punched hearts, along with some brads.

I really love the colours on this card, and can't wait to create more cards with the sketch. I think I'm all stamped out for tonight!!! My husband believes I would be card-making all night if I could!!! He's probably right!! But reality calls in the form of a talkative preschooler, and an energetic toddler, so I must rush off. O.K, so this week's design host, Sandi, on the Play Date Cafe Challenge #11, wanted us to add some glitz to our design with gold and silver, with black and white thrown in. It's strange that I've never thought of this combination before. Again, going back to the whole "less is more", which I seriously need to work on!! It's amazing what results these 4 colours can create. For some reason, I thought of the night sky with all its twinkly stars. This is my representation for the challenge.....

Ideally, if I had all the right tools and supplies, I would have loved to do some gold embossing on the black. Got to love that combo!!! But for now, I have to be content with my sparkly gold paper!!! Can't wait for my SU supplies to arrive next week!! I should be able to create some lovely effects with color pencils. Till then, Namaste!!!

Color Challenged!

I came across Kristina Werner's blog while making my way through stamping paradise on the internet. I decided to take up her Color Inspiration Challenge #57. I intended to use more stamps but ended up creating this card with the different card stock that I had.

Hopefully with the arrival of my new stamping supplies next week, I will be able to create a better finish on each card. Most of my supplies are from the JoAnn craft store, but I'm looking forward to using my Stampin' Up stuff and ordering more supplies from other stamping sites such as Taylored Expressions, etc.

As you can tell from my blog layout, there is still so much lacking. Any comments, advice, suggestions are welcome. Namaste!!!

Fresh off the boat onto Stampin' Land!!!

Hello, fellow stampers!! I think I'm finally creating my own niche in this world. I'm not a stamping demonstrator of any kind; having just begun stamping a few months ago. The main objective initially was to create Christmas cards for all my friends and family, and that process has gradually developed a life of its own. I'm still working on collecting all the necessary paraphernalia required; that being an endless list, of course, with all the great stuff out there. But I attempt each day to create what I can with my limited resources!!

This is a card I decided to create for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge 24; my very first entry in a stamping contest of any kind (Hurray for me!!). My entry probably won't even qualify since not all my supplies are from Stampin' Up, but I thought I would give it a shot:).

The various card-stocks used are from The Holiday Collection - The Christmas Cardstock Stack and Citrus Mat Stack; both made by the Die Cuts With a View Company and available at any JoAnn craft store. The flower was created with the Best Wishes & More stamp set (SU product!), by stamping in a basic red from a Rubber Stampede Dye Based Ink Pad Set (JoAnn). The stem was created by partially stamping the Of the Earth flower stamp (SU product), using a gold Permapaque opaque pigment marker (JoAnn), and the leaf was a stamp from the Hero Arts Ink n' Stamp Nature Set (JoAnn), using the same gold marker. I also used the marker to outline two of the frames.

Now here comes the best part; to create the effect in the oval around the flower (which I traced using an oval earring box!), I made my own sponge dauber, using a make-up sponge round, and a thin elastic band. I used the same red as the flower for the edges. The scalloped edges were done with the Clouds Fiskars Paper Edger and the message is two stickers from the Classic K Bailey Phrases & Decorations embossed sheet. These products are also available at JoAnn. And before you start wondering if I'm trying to sneak in an endorsement for the craft store, I want to let you know that I've just ordered some new supplies from SU and intend on creating a complete SU card!!! Oh, and all the pieces were inked with a brown from the Ink n' Stamp set.

I'm looking forward to an SU camp with demonstrator Marci Cyphert on Jan 16th. Hoping to learn lots of new techniques and tips. And I'm also hoping that by the end of the year, I should have enough and more SU products:).
